Education, employment and training

We have the ambition that every young person leaving care achieves their full potential. We will work hard on your behalf to secure and promote opportunities that meet your needs. We will ask you how you are doing and be ready to celebrate your achievements with you.

We will support you while you are at college or in training. Your personal advisor will work in partnership with other agencies to ensure you receive the support you need.

We will work with other agencies such as the Employment and Youth Hubs to support you prepare for employment in areas such as CV writing and interview preparation.

We will support you to find relevant work experience where possible. We will help with transport and lunch costs for work experience placements.

University

If you are planning to go to university or study a Higher Education course, you will be given support to enable you to do this. We can support with a bursary of up to £2,000 over the 3 years, we will also pay for your accommodation costs for 52 weeks or if 44 weeks then option to retain Stay Put arrangement for holiday periods.

We will support around student finance application, funding and finance support to register with first UCAS application. Regular visits and support from your personal advisor.

The Family Business

As part of Hull City Council, we can -

  • support you into apprenticeships within the council
  • provide you with a range of different opportunities to develop your skills and move you towards employment.

Hull City Council provides a range of services and employs people in different areas and as corporate parents want to provide you with opportunities to experience different fields of work, then offer you the option to focus on an area you find interesting. This is with the hope that we can set you off on your chosen career path.

and will support you to identify a pathway to employment so that you can move forward positively with your life.

If you gain an apprenticeship with Hull City Council, we will guarantee an interview if you meet the essential criteria, support you through our regen champions with the application. We will ensure that you receive the living wage by topping up your wage.
