Young parents

Your Personal Advisor can support you to attend your -

  • GP
  • midwife
  • heath visitor appointments

As well as this you can get child maternity grants and vouchers for when your baby is born.

If you want to return to -

  • education
  • training
  • an apprenticeship

your Personal Advisor can help you access costs for childcare and apply for care to learn grants.

If you are a lone parent and moving into your first home, you can get additional funding support on top of your setting up home allowance up to £500, to help you furnish your property.

We will provide you with a baby box up to £100, which contains essential items for your baby and a hospital bag with toiletries and pamper items.

As the leaving care service we are working towards throwing group baby showers to support those who didn’t get to experience on their own.

We will also help with advice on how to register your child’s birth and claim extra benefits you may be entitled to.

We also run a monthly young parent group which meets on the third Thursday of each month, where you can meet other young parents and take part in fun activities such as -

  • attending local play centres
  • meet Santa
  • PEEPs baby group

There are lots of other services and financial support that you may be able to access

Support during pregnancy or if you have recently given birth to attend appointments and signpost to local children centres/group for activities such as baby massage, and breast feeding.

Help with food

Geet free vouchers each week to spend on -

  • milk
  • fruit and vegetables
  • infant formula milk
  • vitamins

Help with money – You can get a one-off payment of £500 to help towards the cost of having a child, this is known as a Sure Start Maternity Grant.

You can access additional support through the Family Nurse Partnership.

Know your rights

If you feel like you are not getting the right support or are not being listened to. Personal Advisors can advocate for you and help resolve your issues. This may include things like pre-birth assessments or parent and baby assessments.

Support for dads

As a new parent we provide you with a dad’s pack that contains goodies for the hospital visit and birth of your child as we recognise that being a dad is just as important.
